Today was a killer day for a boat ride. We decided to head way out west for some of those nice off-shore salmon that have been around. After about an hour of traveling we dropped lines with no luck. The meter looked good, we were marking fish but no bites. Once the sun was fully over the mountains the problem was pretty obvious. The water was crystal clear….. Fresh upwelling.
Getting a salmon to bite in clear water is harder than ice-skating up hill. We packed up and headed north in search of the green water that salmon are so fond of. Along the way we encountered 2 Orcas that came right by the boat giving our anglers an incredible look.
Okay, arrival at the green water, lines in… missed 3 bites right off the bat. After some patience and a little luck we threw one in the boat. Hours later no luck on a second fish. We picked up and ran to the south side of the canyon and ended up getting another beautiful fish. And just like that we were out of luck then out of time. I’ve definitely had better days than 2 fish, but, I’ve also had worse. The great weather and the killer whales were a bit of solice.
