Went down the coast today and fished with whole squid and strips of squid on 2 hook rigs. A lot of fish were showing on the meter but, the fishing started out slow. After deciding that the problem was most likely the sound of the engines running, and not the fisherman or our tactics, I decided to shut the boat down and drift. As soon as the engines were off, the fish went on the snap. Nice yellows, olives, blues, and occasional bottom fish started coming in the boat. We even caught a real nice Tiger rockfish! Which was only the second one I’ve seen for 2018. Before long everyone on board had pretty nice limits. All in all, today was a great day to go fishing.
